FORESHADOW Story & Craft Anthology Now on Sale!

Foreshadow: Stories to Celebrate the Magic of Reading and Writing YA is now in print, published by Algonquin Young Readers in October. This book, co-edited with Emily X.R. Pan, is so much more than an ordinary short story anthology…

Foreshadow

The book features thirteen YA short stories of various genres, all written by New Voices originally featured on foreshadowya.com. And now accompanying those stories are craft talks written by me or Emily—mini essays that highlight something we think the story did especially well, something special we loved and became obsessed with in that particular story. The book also features the writers’ first sparks of inspiration, interviews with the fiction editors, and writing prompts for those who want to write their own short stories.

In a starred review, School Library Journal said about the book: “Readers are simultaneously entertained and educated. The ingenuity in the writing is reinforced by Pan and Suma’s accompanying essays. Each story shines. An enduring anthology, appropriate for classroom use and recommended for all teen readers.” And Kirkus said, “An ingenious collection of 13 short stories that will especially be enjoyed by aspiring writers. Each of these selections displays great talent, and readers will hope to see future works by these up-and-coming creators. Ranging from deliciously creepy to glowingly hopeful, this collection offers a master class in short stories.”

You can order the book wherever books are sold, including your local independent bookstore and also online through Bookshop.org, which supports the independent bookstore of your choice during the pandemic.
